Missouri Pacific 2242 sits at the Union Pacific yard in Topeka, Ks in June 1993. MP 2242 is a GP38. At Reading, Ks on the Santa Fe Topeka Subdivision the historic semaphore signals await the next train as the sun sets. Little did they know their job was almost done. A year or two later the semaphores were removed and replaced with newer signals. Now all the semaphores on the Topeka sub are gone. Photo by Eric Burris
Southern Pacific 8134 (Dash 9-44CW) west passes Fremont Park at Emporia, Kansas in May of 1994. This taconite train was detouring over the former Santa Fe Emporia subdivision for an unkown reason. Many other SP trains detoured that summer and the next summer. The first three units are the new Dash 9-44CWs built by General Electric. Photo by Eric Burris.
Conrail 6182 west passes the Santa Fe Junction complex at West Bottoms at the Kansas City. SF Jct is at the Missouri / Kansas state line. The Conrail units are on a Santa Fe train that came from the Conrail back east. CR 6182 is a Dash 9-40CW and the second unit is a SD60M. SP 2724 and its companion is a MP15AC. SP 2724 leads a transfer job eastward out of the SP Armourdale Yard at Kansas City. Photos by Eric Burris

(LEFT) Downtown Chicago the vintage Burlington Northern E-8 locomotives, once used for passenger trains sit at the Metra rail yard in June 1993. This photo was taken out the window of Amtrak #4. (MIDDLE) Amtrak 277 south passes by Dolton Junction in a Chicago Suburb. Amtrak 277 is a F40PH locomotive built by EMD. (RIGHT) Shortly later Indiana Harber Belt 9216 east passes by the junction. IHB 9216 and 9202 are SW1500s built by EMD.

On Labor Day weekend Santa Fe 550 pulls the Topeka Railroad Days excursion train from Pauline to Desoto and Pauline to Osage City. In these photos it is headed south to Osage City. 550 and it's faithfull follower are Dash 8-40BWs. Photos by Eric Burris.
