Here's some CSX trains outside Atlanta, Georgia around March 1998. CSX 106 leads the train on the left. CSX 106 is a brand new AC6000CW built by GE. Just south of Cartersville, GA the northbound CSX local passes by after crossing the Etowah River Bridge. The locomotives making up this consist are: CSX 2631 GP38-2, CSX 6027 GP40-2, CSX 5509 B30-7. Conrail 6399 east drags a loaded coal train up grade with helper engines pushing from behind near Gallitzing. The head-end consist is: 3 SD40-2s, CR 6399, 6404, 6410. The helpers are: 2 SD40-2s, CR6370, 6374. The helpers, CR 6372 and 6398, from the westbound merchandise are waiting for the coal train to clear. Photos by Bill Thievon.

CR 4102 is a new SD80MAC built by EMD. This CR train is just east of Johnstown, Pennsylvania at East Conemaugh, where the helpers are added for the climb up the mountains. At South Fork, PA CR 4102 passes by with the helpers on the rear. Photos by Bill Thievon.

(LEFT)Norfolk Southern 9200 leads an eastbound loaded coal train past Del Rio, Tennessee during April 1998. The consist is: NS 9200, a 9-40CW; NS 6677 and 6649, both SD60s. (MIDDLE) Bill chases the train to French Broad Landing near US25/70 French Broad River Crossing. (RIGHT) CSX 7778 is the helper in the background, used for the push over the Blue Ridge Mountains. The southbound merchandise is being led by CSX 8532 (SD50), 8062 (SD40-2), and 6610 (GP40-2) at Erwin, TN in April 1998.
