This view shows the Rutgers Street grade crossing. Menner
Packing is seen directly
ahead. |
Rutgers Street was the only crossing the
Rahway Valley Line
made at grade. The roadway itself was constructed after the railroad
was built through the area, as a 1928 Sanborn Map as well as a 1931
aerial do not show the crossing. The grade crossing was removed in
1973, as a part of the branch line's abandonment between Hollywood
Memorial Park in Union and the end of track in Maplewood. No trace
of the crossing is noticeable
today. |
