Grade Crossing: Market Street

This view shows #17, coming from Aldene, about to cross the Market Street grade crossing. 12/2/1971. Collection of Frank Reilly.

The Market Street (MP 1.07) grade crossing in Kenilworth was an interesting one. The RV's tracks cut straight through a four way intersection of Market Street and Fairfield Avenue.  Like many of the other RV grade crossings, this crossing had no signals or gates, just the RV's hand painted crossbucks. A lone flagman would protect this crossing as the train made its way to the CNJ interchange at Aldene, or going the other way in the direction of the Kenilworth Yards.
