Photo of the Month - May, 2003
In case you have missed the updates, the Port of Tillamook Bay recently bolstered its motive power fleet with the purchase of 10 SD-9's from Burlington Northern-Santa Fe. The purchase was made in December, and the units started trickling in in mid-February. The last one, BN 6156, arrived in mid-April. None of the units were operational when they arrived, but some were in far better shape than others as the motive power-heavy BNSF was sidelining the older units anytime they suffered a failure of any kind - minor or major. Anyhow, I thought that it would be a perfect introduction to the POTB's splash of green if I included them in a photo of the month. It's also the perfect segue to the photo essay feature that I am working on on the movement and arrival of the units on Port property. Here we see the 6114 and 6139 backing out towards the industrial park in Tillamook. You can learn more about the 10 units by following this link to the roster page. Photo by Jody Moore. March 9, 2003.
