Tank Car Corporation of America Oreland PA September 1990 |
TCCA contributed to much of the traffic that made its way though Lansdale PA in the 1990's. In addition to maintenance and repair work done on the namesake cars, DODX flatcars, boxcars and cabooses could frequently be found about the premises. A few years later, a number of DODX flats that came in went out as Amtrak flats after rebuilding, and later they rebuild some Amtrak gondolas. Merchants Despatch Corporation picked up many of the NYC heritage Flexi-Flo hoppers after Conrail disposed of them, and much of the maintenance work done on them was also handled here (some pictures can be found here) . EPIX spine cars that are used for trash service would pop up occasionally too, and the Rohm and Haas Safety Train was an annual visitor. TCCA was located at the eastern end of the Reading's Plymouth Branch were it connected to the Bethlehem Branch. As well as the work done on operating cars, a number of unique cars were stored there, two of them being the Budd Company's Lo Pac II car BUDX 2000 and a Budd Company articulated hopper. Unfortunately, the business must have moved elsewhere, and the shop has been closed for almost a year. |
