* - It should be noted that the Union Station Products are Craftsman-level kits.  Some clean-up of parts and assembly is required, and care must be exercised when assembling these sides because of the delicate parts.

Note 1:  Named sleeping cars.

  • The N&W County-series P.S. 10 - 6 s were painted for the PRR pool service and carried the following names:
Buchanan County McDowell County Sussex County

  • The following names were used on the former Nickel Plate Road 10 - 6 cars.  It is not known if any of these cars actually received N&W paint prior to retirement.
City of Buffalo City of Findlay City of Kokamo City of Lorain City of Painesville City of Toledo
City of Erie City of Indianapolis City of Lima City of Muncie City of Peoria City of Wayne

  • The following names were used on ex-Wabash cars.  The names were retained when repainted as N&W with National- and Western-series pool cars carried the UP colors with the sublettering changing to "N&W" in red while in service on the City of St. Louis, while the Blue-series cars were repainted with Pevlar blue bodies, black roofs, white "PULLMAN" roadname and "N.&W. RY." sublettering, with no trim stripes:
  • Blue Boy Blue Gazelle Blue Knight Western Lake Western View
Blue Cloud Blue Horizon Blue Skies Western Sunset

Note 2:  The N&W's ex-Wabash dome-coach cars can be represented using the Kato dome-coach models.  For 1610 - 1612 the Budd dome-coach can be used but for the models to be truly accurate the truck cut-outs need to be made into the skirting.  For 1613, the Kato smooth sided dome would be suitable.

Note 3:  N&W sleepers in the Western series, dome - leg-rest coach 1613 and leg-rest coach 1838 were part of UP's City of St. Louis pool and as such were painted in UP colors.  The sleepers were lettered with red "PULLMAN" lettering on the letterboard and small "N&W" sublettering, while 1613 was painted with red N&W lettering (after that train was discontinued it was repainted with a Pevlar blue carbody, silver roof and yellow N&W lettering but with no trim stripe).  It is possible that 1838 was also repainted with the same lettering (unconfirmed), and after the train was discontinued, it was rebuilt into Track Inspection Car #800.

Note 4:  N&W baggage - express 125 - 134 were built to the same plans as PRR B60b baggage - express, including the use of the unusual PRR 2D-P5 trucks.

Note 5:  When repainted to N&W only the blue stripe of the letterboard was painted.  One car, 1705, received a tuscan red letterboard stripe and gold lettering while the other cars received a Pevlar blue letterboard stripe.
