The following are cars that can be accurately modeled currently in N-scale using available car sides, kits and R-T-R models.  The list below are recommendations only, based on the best information that I have on-hand.  If you know of additions or corrections that need to be made, or know of suitable decals for lettering these cars, please email me by Clicking Here.

Other roads that participated in run-through service with the L&N also had cars of the same (or similar) designs.  These roads include the Atlantic Coast Line, Florida East Coast, Pennsylvania Railroad, Seaboard Air Line, Southern Railway and the West Point Route.  (The River - series cars used in the PRR pool were painted in PRR colors with PRR-styled L&N lettering.  These cars were later repainted in L&N blue and yellow.)

It should be noted that the NC&StL was, in later years, a L&N subsidiary and in 1959 all of their cars became L&N property, with time being repainted and relettered.  Also, it should be noted that during the 1960s the C&EI was merged into the Missouri Pacific and then later divided between MoPac and the L&N.  While many of the cars were assigned MoPac numbers it is difficult to say how many of these cars actually received MoPac paint, while many did later receive L&N paint when cars were transferred.

Note 4:  All four of the C&EI Pine - series cars were transferred to the MoPac, and when the C&EI's assets were split with the L&N, all four cars were transferred to the L&N and renumbered 650 - 653 (without their names) and placed in service as dormitory cars.  After the creation of Amtrak L&N 652 (nee-C&EI Loblolly Pine) was rebuilt by AutoLiner and sold to the MoPac as their #2 (2ND).

Note 5:  Either set of sides can be used to create the corrugated cars, with the USP P.S. corrugation for this detail (which comes in the USP kit).  It is not recommended that the Brass Car Sides set be used since it has the double beaded beltrail, which could interfere with the adding of this detail.

Note 6:  One C&EI Pine - series sleeper was rebuilt into a track inspection car, painted in L&N colors, with a "Family Lines" herald.  This car was destroyed in a derailment around 1982.
