The following are cars that can be accurately modeled currently in N-scale using available car sides, kits and R-T-R models.  The list below are recommendations only, based on the best information that I have on-hand.  If you know of additions or corrections that need to be made, or know of suitable decals for lettering these cars, please email me by Clicking Here.

Probably the most famous train of the Burlington Route was the California Zephyr, which comprised cars owned by the three member roads (CB&Q, Rio Grande and Western Pacific) and one sleeper used as a part of a transcontinental routing owned by the Pennsylvania, but the "Q" was also integrate parts of Great Northern and Northern Pacific passenger train operations.  See those pages for more information on the cars used.

Below is a list of links for the manufacturers featured on this page:

Note 2:  These cars can be modeled using Kato's early Budd car offerings.

Note 3:  These cars can be modeled using Kato's California Zephyr passenger cars.

Note 4:  The following names were used on the Glacier- and Pass-series sleeping cars:
1178 Sperry Glacier 1371 Pitamakin Pass 1382 Blewett Pass
1179 Siyeh Glacier 1378 Firebrand Pass

Note 5:  Budd dome - sleeper cars 304 and 305 saw some use on the Illinois Central, painted in IC brown, orange and yellow with "Pullman" lettering.  Both were rebuilt with a buffet replacing two of the single rooms, being renumbered 378 and 380 in 1967.
  • CB&Q 304 used on the I.C. during the winter seasons of 1964 - 1965 and 1966 - 1967.
  • CB&Q 305 on the I.C. used during the winter season of 1967 - 1968.

Note 6:  CB&Q 252 ( 1ST ) Silver Roundup was wrecked and scrapped.  WP 831 Silver Chalet was transferred to the CB&Q, renumbered 252 ( 2ND ) retaining the Silver Chalet name.

    Note 7:  16-section sleepers 400 - 402 were rebuilt to 50-seat coaches numbered 4742 - 4744, retaining their original names.

Note 8:  Budd coach 4714 rebuilt to prototype dome car, renamed Silver Dome.  4709 rebuilt to prototype dome car, retained its name.

Note 9:  The Budd Great Dome car sides are intended for use on a Bachmann Big Dome model.

Note 10:  Budd dome - coaches 4735 and 4736 were similar to the California Zephyr dome - coaches with only some minor details differing between the two.  As they are they could be reasonable stand - ins but if a more accurate model is desired such could be built by filling in some of the small windows under the dome area and adding an additional vent to the roof.  See the Weblurker's DOMEmain site under the CB&Q listings for more on the differences of these cars compared to CZ's dome - coaches.
