THIS WEBSITE IS IN MEMORY OF JOHN LABODA, 1918 - 1969.
He was my father, my hero and my friend, and I owe my interest in railroads to him because of the "quality time" we spent together, often watching trains.  And, because of his work as a security guard and fireman at Edwards AFB and for North American Aviation/North American Rockwell, he was also a hero to a number of other people as well.
Thank you Daddy... for everything!!!

Welcome to the Passenger Car Photo Index, the best resource for finding passenger car photos for many North American railroads on the web.  Because of my own interests in passenger trains and passenger train equipment I began compiling this Index of links to images of passenger cars one section at a time, initially covering only certain types of passenger equipment that I have found to be of interest while more was added as time went along.  Since its beginning in January 2003, this has grown to a massive listing covering passenger train equipment from all over North America, providing railfans and modelers accurate documentation of what cars looked like and how many were painted and lettered.

A lot is changing with this edition of the Index and I hope that what you will find here-in will be of value.  One change that was necessary due to the size of many of the pages is that some links now open to an album view of a car's photos, not just the individual car image itself.  With so many pages reaching a size where listings had to be either condensed or the page split, both options were pursued when necessary, with more yet to come with further Updates.  The advantage with this is that for some cars even interior views are now included, where possible, though I honestly do not have room to include interiors as a regular listing.  With this edition of the Index, 20 new pages (not counting the Carnival and Circus train pages, which are not quite ready) have been added.

Also, as you will note as you go through the Index, new graphics (headers and other passenger car drawings) are being added in as it is possible.  With this Update several new headers and page graphics have been added to certain pages but because of the length of time it has taken to get this Update finished, which has required a large amount of rewriting pages for various reasons, more were not possible at the present time.  Once another Update for a page is posted it is my hope that additional graphics will be added in. It is always worth noting that this website is not by any means a work exclusively of my own.  I am deeply indebted to the many photographers and webmasters represented herein who have chosen to share their photos on the internet!!!  If it wasn't for their willingness to share what they saw for themselves many of the cars documented within these links would remain a mystery.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention my partners who help me to provide this valuable website, without whom none of this would be possible...

I am deeply indebted to and proud to have as the host of this website Trainweb.org.  Host to a large number of really great websites, and that typically at little to no cost to webmasters,  I can honestly say that it is a priviledge that I am thankful for in having the Index hosted by them.  If you are looking for a host for a railroad related website and want to learn more about this valuable service click the logo to the left for information... and join in the fun!!!

If you are looking for great railroad photographs or a place to host the same I highly recommend the RR Picture Archives.  A leading site for photos of all kinds, I am really pleased to have my rail-related images hosted on this site and I recommend that you do the same.  Just click the icon to the left to visit the site.

Since the tragedy of the 9/11 attack the rights of individuals to take photographs in public places have come under attack, and this has become especially true of those who take pictures of trains.  Attorney Bert P. Krages II has compiled information on what should and shouldn't be done when taking photographs in public... to visit his site just click the icon to the left.

All the pages of this site have been uploaded to the host server using Internet Soft Corp.'s FTP Commander.  If you would like to know more about this freeware program visit their website at www.internet-soft.com.  This "File Transfer Protocal" program is easy to use and is fast in transferring files to a website host, and after five years of use I still am very well pleased with how it has served me... which is why I highly recommend it!!!

I would like to also recommend several great websites that feature photos and information far beyond what is convered here, for certain types of passenger equipment.

For additional information and photos of Vista Dome cars the single best source for on the web for this is the Web Lurker's DOMEmain site.  Because of the extensive collection of images on this site I have not made an effort to catalog it but if you would like to visit just click on the dome car drawing below...

Also I highly recommend to anyone who want to learn more about the cars and locomotives that Amtrak has used since its inception to also visit Jim Hebner's Amtrak Photo Archives.  On his site he features an extensive collection of photographs of most Amtrak locomotives as well as a large collection of photos of various passenger cars, express cars, Roadrailers, and even a couple of "Amtrak" buses, making it the best place on the web to view Amtrak rolling stock.  Just click the Amtrak coach below to go to his site...

And if you would like to see the latest developments in regards to glass - topped cars (dome cars and others) or about modern Doodlebug motor cars I invite you to visit the Jody Moore's Ultradomes website by clicking on the drawing below.  It is a great site that not only tells the story of the Colorado Railcar Manufacturing history but also how they are striving to keep the tradition of glass - topped dome cars alive.  (Note:  The Train GIF below represents CRMX 2002, the Aero DMU prototype, which has been modified and repainted for service on the South Florida Rapid Transit Authority's Tri-Rail commuter lines in new Tri-rail paint.  For photos of this car, and the Bi-level DMU that CRMX constructed for this operation can be found under the Tri-Rail listings.)

I would like to also take this time to mention two more sites that are very close to my heart...
Attention Veterans.  If you served in any of the Armed Forces, and were honorably discharged, you may be entitled to receive free or reduced coast medical treatment at one of the many VA Hospitals.  To learn more click on the VA seal at the left.  VA Hospitals, proudly serve those who proudly served our country.

The percentage of children being born with the mental disorder known as Autism is growing at a rate of 10% - 14% every year.  With a growth rate like this it could soon even affect you or someone you know.  If you would like to find out more about this condition or would like to find out how you might help, please visit the Autism Speaks website by clicking on their emblem to the left.  Children who have autism grown up to be adults who have autism... so any help would be greatly appreciated as they work towards answers to help those who are afflicted.

As has happened with every Update prior to this one broken links are likely to be encountered.  Unfortunately this is something that can never be avoided since so much changes for the many who do have websites.  I cannot promise you that all links will remain working since I have no control over this.  I will say, though, that if a link isn't working I will see about it (and if possible, report it to the owner of the site) and if necessary, remove it from future updates.  To email me just CLICK HERE.

Would you be willing to become a part of the work on the Index?  I am searching for information on a variety of cars that are shown in the listings.  I am also looking for a few who would be willing to work with me on the website.  If you have information that could help to identify a car needing its "History???" please email me by using any of the email links spread through this site.
