Canada Southern
Michigan Central leased CASO effective January 1, 1883.
New York Central subleased CASO effective August 21, 1929
Pennsylvania absorbed New York Central and merged February 1, 1968
becoming Pennsylvania New York Central Transportation Company.
Operating as Penn Central which soon included New Haven.
Penn Central soon went bankrupt (June 21, 1970)
and Conrail (Consolidated Rail Corp.) was created by US government
effective April 1, 1976 taking over Penn Central and many other bankrupt
US roads
. Eventually, (in 1999) the US Government sold off Conrail jointly to
CSX and NS.
Canadian lines in Ontario were sold in 1985 to CN and CP and soon afterwards
abandoned.
