Goderich Exeter This was Ontario's first modern era shortline spinoff. Its pioneer effort resulted in a long delay getting into operation. Rail America bought April 3,1992 the CN branches Goderich Sub. from Stratford to Goderich 46 miles and Exeter Sub. Clinton to Centralia 24 miles. A major expansion of their operation took place November 15, 1998 with the lease of CN Guelph Sub. from Silver (near Georgetown) to London 90 miles (plus several spurs) and running rights into MacMillan Yard Toronto. Ontario L'Orignal This RailTex shortline began November 1, 1996 with 21 miles of former CN Vankleek Subdivision between Glen Robertson and Hawksbury, Ontario plus, a 4.4 mile spur from Hawksbury to L'Orignal to serve Ivaco Rolling Mills. Rail America acquired RailTex February 4, 2000 and later Quebec Railway Corp. acquired the line effective January 2001. Ottawa Valley This shortline was created by RaiLink (originally, Trans-Ontario Railway) led by shortline pioneer Tom Payne, through a 17 year lease starting October 30, 1996 of the CPR mainline between Smiths Falls and Sudbury consisting of Chalk River Sub. 115 miles from Smiths Falls to Chalk River and the North Bay Sub.a further 117 miles to North Bay and 69 miles of the Cartier Sub. to Romford (near Sudbury) with running rights 43 miles to Cartier.
