This wheel arrangement was not popular with the CPR unlike Grand Trunk.

This photograph clearly shows how close the clearance was through the tunnel under downtown Brockville and is the reason J3d 3011 and J5b 3051 were kept on the roster. The stencil wording on the front of pilot is a safety rule:
employees are warned not to get on foot board when engine is approaching.
