Only two engines of this wheel arrangement were ever on the roster. Built by the CPR in 11/1914 they were basically a longer version of the popular 4-6-2 and while having greater tractive effort they were not repeated. Both engines were assigned for years to handle the heavy Toronto-Ottawa night sleeper trains Nos. 34 and 33.

2901 shown here in Toronto just in off No. 33 circa 1930. Al Paterson/Bruce Chapman Collection

2901 (and 2900) later assigned to work passenger into Saint John, NB 10/14/1940
