NREX 5678 is not what it seems! In fact it is 5534. Or, is it? This looks like an SD40 (5500-5564).
It definately does not look like a SD40-2 with 20 1/2" extended nose (5675 and up).

5534 GMD A2179 1/1967 was retired 3/2003 sold 8/2004 to NRE-Alco.
5678 GMD A3123 12/1974 was retired 12/1974 sold 8/2004 NRE-Alco.

5534 was said to have been upgraded to SD40-2 and renumbered 5678.
What may have happened is the -2 components came from the original 5678
and other parts including the carbody and possibly the frame are from 5534.

Later, became IC&E 6212 along with 6213-6217.

CP long-term leased eight SW10 units 1212, 1213, 1217, 1220, 1221, 1222, 1231, 1240
through Connell Leasing 12/08/1999. Renumbering allotted 1280-1287.
Lease cancelled 2002. All units to NRE 5/2005.
