International Bridge Company

Leased 1872 (999 years) by Grand Trunk Ry. Co. of Canada.

Built by Dominion Bridge and Iron Works, Detroit. It opened November 3, 1873
Two span swing bridge. Main channel 1,890 feet to Unity Island (Squaw Island),
440 feet across Black Rock channel. The latter closed sometime during WWII.

Note: The small building was a steam powered pumphouse to deliver water to the roundhouse some distance away.
There is a track this side of the pumphouse. GTR 4-4-0 about to cross the bridge to U.S of A.

In 2020 it remains a main access for CN and CP ftreight trains between Canada and USA.


GTR 1 International Bridge steam car operated between Fort Erie, Ontario and Black Rock, New York
over the International Bridge. Built GTR 1911. Became CNR 15901, later 15704 Rule Instruction car.
