Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre

Nanton, AB

Located about half way between Calgary and Lethbridge.

Independent Grain Co. Ltd. first built an elevator here in 1929 and
expanded it over the years. In 1954 Pioneer Grain Co. Ltd. acquired
all 22 IGC elevators in numberous towns.

Once served by CPR their MacLeod Subdivision was abandoned in 2001.

Local people saw the value of preserving their three closed elevators
and set about doing just that restoring them over a period of a few years
including relaying track!
