Wallace Avenue Footbridge Dundas Street West at Glenlake Avenue. (three short blocks west of here and one block southeast of Annette Street) at Humberside Avenue was the city limits between Toronto and West Toronto until amalgamation in 1909). Bloor streetcars did not extend west of Lansdowne Ave. This footbridge was built in 1907 to allow residents on the east side access to Toronto Railway Company's Dundas streetcars cars which went downtown to the City Hall, Eaton's and Simpson's department stores etc. or, went west to the much closer Junction area of West Toronto connecting at Keele Street with standard gauge Toronto Suburban Railway cars to Lambton or Weston and later, Woodbridge. April 22, 1915 Streetcar tracks are long gone in this 2001 view of rebuilt historically-designated bridge. R.L.Kennedy |
