Note the old style crossing gates which more completely closed off
both the street and the sidewalks. Subway under construction in 1925. Opened January 18, 1926 it required three bridges (made by The Canadian Bridge Company, Walkerville, Ont.) for the three railway lines (CPR, CNR, exTG&B) and a complicated realigned intersection for Dundas, Annette, (Old) Weston Road and Dupont Streets. It remains unchanged. Note that one-third of the Watt Milling building has been removed. Looking east on a traffic free Saturday during the Great Depression. Osler Street in the background. |
