Union Station

New Union Station sits finished while trains continue to use the old Union station.

Train shed is finally under construction a year later. Five of seven half moon windows can be seen in the center structure.
Later, six of these were covered over as the design was changed from six pairs of stub and four through tracks.

Another two years and work continues on the train shed while operations continue on the lower level.

Two more views of the train shed still under construction.

Completed High Level with CPR John Street coach yard at left, Union Station train shed at right.

Everything completed along the Viaduct. Two views (above and below) of the High Level. Scott Street interlocking tower.

Looking west along Front Street West. TTC Simcoe (Street) Loop with Yonge "train" about to enter it.

After on street looping along Station Street past the old union station ended April 1, 1928 Yonge Street cars were rerouted looping north on York Street and east on Wellington Street West back to Yonge Street. Sherbourne cars which operated along King Street, York Street and Front Street West to Station Loop were rerouted via Bay Street, Front and York back to King Street West. Note: Bathurst cars passed by here going east of Yonge Street to loop on various streets.

This loop opened 9/22/1930. It closed 9/28/1953 with Yonge cars once again rerouted via York and Wellington.
(Note:
CN Telecommunications 151 Front Street West was built on this site.)

New CNR freight shed at far right, old sheds opposite. Long narrow building at lower left is CNR Express.
CPR John Street roundhouse, car shop and North coach yard at left. Stripping shed and Bone Yard to right of loop.
CNR Spadina roundhouse beyond with city's John Street (water) pumphouse in between. Spadina Avenue bridge in distance.
John Street interlocking tower in center. Steam engine is passing one passenger car sitting on "fence" track.
This short deadend track was used to hold a few spare CNR cars handy for addition to trains when ticket sales required since Spadina coach yard was so distant.
