Triple Crown Services Road Railer Control cab 1100 leads 6043 eastbound 528 through Lobo 2/22/1998 This control cab was rebuilt in 1995 from C-424 4236 to solve a unique problem. When the train became too big for a single GP38 instead of two units which were more than needed, a single SD40-2 was used. However, there was a problem in Detroit. There was no place to turn the unit! At least not an affordable one. CP was paying $6-700 to use a nearby wye belonging to a third railway. Thus, the control cab solution which also saved maintenance, fuel and a small amount of pay to the engineer if a second diesel were to be used. 3046 on train 529 westbound at Milton.
