Typically, following discontinuance
of mixed trains stations remained for express and LCL freight however, it was
often trucked in and out. Station agents were replaced by caretakers if train
orders were no longer handled. Mobile Agents drove from station to station to
handle what carload freight work remained and eventually, even these jobs were
eliminated by 1-800 phone numbers to Customer Service Centres. Most stations and
sheds were demolished although a few were rented out for awhile.
