MLW FA-1 and FB-1

4008-4404 the first pair of MLW FA-1 and FB-1 (#77303 and 77325 6/16/50) 1500 hp units of a single order for 20 A and 20 B units. They were the only ones. Earlier units were built by Alco in the USA and later MLW units were the newer model, 1600 hp FA-2 and FB-2. These units first passed through Schreiber on the night of June 28th and returned in daylight a day or two later shown here displaying signals (green flags). Harry Hart

Note the two single horns originally supplied on these units.

This is actually the second unit to carry the number 4016. It was outshopped by Angus March 14, 1966 following a rebuild using the carbody of 4014 already traded-in Feb. 14/66 to MLW for 4249 a new C-424 as were 50 others. The reason was RS-10 8557 had extensive fire damage Jan. 28/66. Various components from 8557 and new parts were utilized. 8557 was scrapped.
