Donald

Donald, BC, named for Donald Smith, was a Division point and the boundary between the Western and the Pacific Divisions as well as the boundary between Mountain and Pacific Time. A 12 stall roundhouse was part of the facilities here. Diamond stacked wood burner 0-6-0 152 was originally built in 1868 by Fox,Walker and Company, Bristol, England, as a broad gauge (5 foot 6 inch) 4-4-0 number 1 Evangeline for the Windsor and Annapolis. It was one of six similar locomotives acquired in 1875 by the Intercolonial Ry.of Canada when it was standard gauged. They worked on government construction (Purcell & Ryan) westward out of Thunder Bay and in 1883 the four remaining engines were sold to the CPR and in 1887 rebuilt as 0-6-0's. 152 was scrapped in 1907. Note:
Yard engine has a hold of box car 2750. In 1899, the terminal was relocated to Revelstoke and Donald dwindled in importance.
