Ontario Car Ferry Company

Grand Trunk/Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh

1907 - 1950

Incorporated in 1905 by Grand Trunk and Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh owned 50/50 to operate a car ferry to move coal from Pennsylvania to Ontario via Rochester and Cobourg as well as passengers and their automobiles. Originally Port Hope had been in the running for the Ontario port but Cobourg got it. This service operated year round from November 1907 until April 30, 1950. Excursion charters were also operated on Lake Ontario a summer pastime common throughout Ontario for many years.
