BNSF Barstow LMIT shops tour 4-21-01
These photos were taken on April 21, 2001 during a shop tour of the BNSF Barstow
Locomotive Maintenance and Inspection Terminal (LMIT).  The tour commenced with
a presentation by BNSF employees associated with Operation Lifesaver, then we were
split into groups and guided through the tour by BNSF LMIT supervisory personnel.

The SDF40-2s were being stored serviceable.

Here,
just west of the running repairs building,
BNSF6967 awaits transport
to BNSF's "mothball fleet".

This nose close-up photo shows the unique notches applied by the Santa Fe shops to make it easier for crews to use the nose door for entry and exit of the locomotive.

This x-SF 1300-class GP7u slug mother and GP35 BNSF2547 were sharing duty as shop switchers, parked at the east end of the locomotive repair shop.
The 2547 is equipped to run on batteries only, to keep the shop interior smoke-free.
These locomotives awaiting maintenance display a variety of paint schemes, including Basic BN, SF, and BNSF schemes, along with a few leased units.

GP30 2472 sports a BNSF-updated x-SF Blue and Yellow Warbonnet Livery.  The yellow "BNSF" on the long hood eliminates the need for the blue "BNSF" on the cab displayed on GP38 2862 shown below.
This visitor has arrived from the midwest.  It's an x-IC CN 6281, an SD40.
