Orange County Module Railroaders Club Assets

This page depicts some of the OCMR assets, including the throttle modules and some of the corners.

Throttle Modules

Two of our modules are just 2' by 2'.  They supply the place for the throttles that each control 4 track power blocks, two on each main line.  The throttles were built by club members. Each of the small gray boxes shown above contain the transistor, potentiometer, direction stitch and track voltage indicator.  They plug into sockets on the main throttle board, and we have spares to make it easy to replace should one of them fail.  The transformers, rectifiers and current limiters are all housed under the trackwork. Everything is permanently wired, so setup is really easy.

This Throttle Module also has a double crossover between the inside main line and the optional auxillary track (OAT).  It permits us to make sidings off the inside main when connected with modules that have implemented the OAT connection.

In this photo, one of our members has removed the drop-in backdrop that normally hides the throttles from public view.  You can also see that the two outside-main thrttles have been turned down, and only the inside packs are showing track voltage.

The two inside packs control the inside mainline blocks.  The two outside packs control the outside mainline.

Switches are provided to gap the OAT and to select the common rail for Normal operation or for a return Loop.

All rails except the Outside Rail (the Common Rail) are gapped.

Corners

OCMR has 6 corners. Four of them are hex-shaped corners that fit in a 4' by 4' space.  Two of them are made from two 2' by 4' modules that connect together to make an L-shaped 4' by 6' corner.  Pictures of the 4' x 4' corners are shown here below:  All corners maintain a minimum 36 inch radius on the mainlines, and permit a small easement at the start of the turn at each end.

This is the Orange Grove corner.  It reflects a major aspect of our heritage here in California's Orange County.

This is the Route 66 corner.  Route 66 intertwines with the former Santa Fe Railway's trackage, and is a major feature of the Southern California railroad scene.

More information on Route 66 can be found on the World Wide Web.

Engine Service Area

The engine service area consists of a 2' by 4' module and the Engine Service Corner.  This area is under construction and rework.  When completed, it will handle engine service for a small number of diesel and steam locomotives, and provide an opportunity for hostling engines during our club shows.

This Module, being less specific, is often just called the "Fourth Corner".  It supplies continuity of the 18" track around the corner, and provides a transition from the OAT on the right to the 18" track on the left.  When possible, this module helps extend our capabilities for branchline switching by interconnecting these tracks around a corner.

Other Assets

Photos of our other two corners, and a wye module that is made of three 2' by 4' modules, will be added here as they become available.
