Remarks:
The Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, in 1894, ordered a 2-6-2 "Prairie" locomotive fitted with Vauclain compound cylinders.
Having a larger boiler than its 'N' cousin, it was also a heavier locomotive. operated over the Paekakariki-Longburn section, the engine proved a good performer and showed a "marked saving in steam" when compared with a simple locomotive.
W&MRC orded a further similar engine in 1897, but this locomotive was slightly heavier tha the earlier machine.
The Government took them over in 1908 and by 1929 they were worn out. Ex Wellington & Manawatu Railway Co. #'s 14, 15 |
