Personal Profile — Mark Blaustein

I was born and raised in the NY metropolitan area, where I lived for over 40 years before moving to Chapel Hill, NC. I am married with two grown daughters, and two grandchildren.

I am presently retired after working in consumer goods marketing for companies including Clairol, L’Oreal, and Eastman Kodak. I also served as a volunteer fireman for 10 years in NY, before moving to NC. I have always had a love of trains, and every trip my wife and I have taken in the US and Europe has included a rail component.

In the Northeast where basements are widely available, I started modeling Southern Pacific in HO with a basic 4’x8» layout. Since moving to North Carolina, I changed to N scale to maximize space. Most of my rolling stock is Erie and Erie-Lackawanna from the 1950-1960»s era, but I've now started to concentrate on passenger trains from the same era up to the present Amtrak system.

Main Street Track Plan

Description

The design is reminiscent of any small town in the USA with a Main Street paralleled by an active rail line. Life seems to go on normally, even though passenger and freight trains go thundering by on a regular basis!

Description

This is a mostly rural module with Fall colors, and includes a viaduct based on the one at Starucca Creek in Lanesboro, PA. After completing the module, I happened to recall the old Graucho Marx "Viaduct/Why a Duck" routine, and the name stuck!
