Tonight’s
meeting began with the distribution of a draft brochure for the members and
attendees to review and comment on.
This brochure contains information about the organization and what rail
initiatives it embraces. Also contained
therein are some facts pertaining to rail safety, air pollution, federal
subsidies, national passenger ridership, highway construction costs, etc. There is contact and membership information
on the back as well as some other related web sites. These brochures, once finalized, will be distributed throughout
NH communities by the NHRRA membership.
After a brief introduction
by president Peter Griffin, Stephen Piper gave a slide show presentation also
for review and comment by the attendees.
This slide show was intended to depict the objectives of NHRRA in a
visual sense through the use of photographs, maps, graphs, and text with
commentary provided by the presenter.
Upon completion of the
presentation a brief question and answer period followed with subsequent
discussions pertaining to specific routes and their associated potentials for
upgrade. Also discussed was the
viability of creating similar slide presentations unique to the specific
corridors for presentations in those immediate communities.
Cara
contacted the Renaissance Program prior to tonight’s meeting to provide
information for their newsletter. The
result was free advertising for the meeting that went into the local newspaper
as an enclosure and distributed to 70,000 households in the community.
Meeting
adjourned at 9:00 PM.
Next meeting: Monday, February 24 at 7 PM, Pembroke
