SYSTEM TIMETABLE AT TRAINWEB

NORTHEAST CORRIDOR TIMETABLE CHANGES

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 31, 2005

ACELA EXPRESS AND METROLINER:

Train #2150 departs Washington, DC 10 minutes earlier at 5:00AM.

One Metroliner Round-trip remains in the schedule and has been renumbered into the 2300 series. This officially ends the practice that all Metroliner trains are numbered in the lower 100-series.

REGIONAL, KEYSTONE, CLOCKER, VERMONTER, PENNSYLVANIAN, AND EMPIRE SERVICE CHANGES:

The Clocker service has been eliminated and replaced with Northeast Corridor Line New Jersey Transit Trains, which will operate from Trenton to New York City only with no through service to Philadelphia.

All Regional, Springfield Shuttle, and Empire Trains as well as all Keystone Trains north of Philadelphia are entirely all reserved services and the fares are based upon class of inventory rather than the time of the day and the day of the week as in the old Unreserved System. When Itinerary changes are made, they now require a ticket exchange transaction, and likewise, if a higher fare is required, the difference between the higher and lower fares to be collected.

For Passengers with Multi-Ride Tickets, the following policies are in place, including Amtrak Pass Riders. These may be seen in Arrow as noted below:

Type of Multi-Ride Pass or Flash Pass

Policy and Pages

Amtrak Monthly and 10-rides

G/POL/TKT/P11-P12

Maryland Area Rail Commuter Multi-Ride Tickets

G/POL/COM/P9-P10

Virginia Railway Express Multi-Ride Tickets

G/POL/COM/P12

Amtrak Employee Flash Passes

G/POL/AMP/P57-P64

New Jersey Transit Monthly and Multi-Ride tickets are no longer being honored on any Amtrak Trains at any time.

Cornwell’s Heights, Pennsylvania (CWH) Station is being retained. The Decision for this station came too late to include it in the timetable; hence the line was left out. Trains will stop there and Amtrak’s web site will show the service pattern for that station.  A table showing which trains will stop at Cornwell’s Heights will be added to the TTU Section of the Train web Server in a later update.

Service to and from the New York/Newark International Airport, NJ Rail Station is being consolidated into fewer trains due to train congestion issues on New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast and Northeast Corridor Lines.  See Table Below for the new service pattern:

FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE CLOCKERS:

The Clocker Division contained within the System Timetable will be stricken and de-indexed. The Clockers will be reintroduced as New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor Line service.

There is no more Clocker service. The majority of the passengers who were riding these trains were essentially Northeast Corridor Line New Jersey Transit passengers. New Jersey Transit has added trains into their schedule to handle these passengers. Therefore, there will be no more Amtrak Trains shown in the New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line timetables effective October 31, 2005.  This service change is permanent.  With this change, as previously announced in the Website Monthly News Letter, http://www.trainweb.org/nationaltimetable/announcements/20nov05/update.html are no longer being honored on any Amtrak train at any time.  Some of the new trains added by New Jersey Transit operating on roughly similar time slots to the Clockers are shown in the table below.

As noted, there will be no through service to Philadelphia, however, SEPTA does offer connecting service between Trenton and Philadelphia on their R-7 Line. SEPTA and New Jersey Transit should be contacted separately for inetermediate station stops and times.  The Septa R-2 (Newark), R-5 (Paoli), and R-7 (Trenton) lines will be phased into the commuter services section of the Train web System Timetable.

MORE EMPIRE SERVICE CHANGES:

There has been a complete restructuring of Empire Service train numbering. This primarily affects the trains operating only from New York to Albany.  The trains west of Albany remain in the 280-series, and the Ethan Allen Express remains in the 290-series as they are today.  The full restructuring plan is shown below to familiarize readers with the new sequencing.

Train Number Series

Service Pattern

230-249

Weekdays – Local trains New York to Albany only.

250-269

Weekends – Local trains New York to Albany only.

280-289

All New York to Niagra Falls Through Trains.

290-299

All New York to Rutland through Trains.

With this change, the 270-279 series, not shown in the table above, is vacated. This series will be used for special event trains only.

There are no service changes to the Maple Leaf, Ethan Allen Express, or Adirondack.

The Two Remaining Metroliners that are in the schedule are in the table below:

MORE ON THE EMPIRE SERVICE AND LAKE SHORE LIMITED SCHEDULE ISSUES:

There was a weekday scheduling conflict between Amtrak and Metro North concerning current train 257, which is renumbered as train 235 on the new schedule and train 49.  To resolve this matter, train 235, formerly 257, is rescheduled to a 3:20PM departure from New York and train 49 remains untouched at 3:50PM.  However, now that there are some 120 coach seats available for sale between New York and Albany on any given weekday, Local traffic is now being handled at stops between New York and Albany as summarized in the table above, (see train #49 row). These seats are available thanks to not having a through car section operating between Boston and Chicago, since the Massachusetts passengers transfer at Albany from trains 447 and 449.  These seats will now be used for New York to Albany local travel, representing a policy change with local stops on Long Haul Trains. These seats will be available seven days a week. Train 49 closes a large gaping hole in the afternoon scheduling on Saturday and Sunday Afternoons.
