EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2004

Coaster Monthly Pass holders only will be permitted to ride any Pacific Surfliner Train or Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach, including weekends; within the zone limits of their tickets; AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.

Coaster Monthly Passes, whether Regular, Youth, or Senior/Disabled, are issued by zones and do not indicate city pairs. For this reason, therefore, Amtrak Conductors and their assistants must be familiar with the zoning. When a Coaster Passenger wishes to travel on Amtrak trains beyond the normal limits of their trips, a separate fare must be collected onboard the train; which is calculated between the end limit of the pass presented and the passenger’s actual final destination or from the actual origination of the passenger to the point where the pass limits begin.

For instance – as noted below:

A passenger with a Coaster Pass must present the pass for the number of zones as outlined below.

1. Oceanside to Solana Beach must present a 2-zone pass. (1-to-2)

2. Solana Beach to San Diego must present a 3-zone pass. (2-to-4)

3. Oceanside to San Diego must present a 4-zone pass. (1-to-4)

Example: A Coaster Monthly Pass Holder boards a train at San Diego and wishes to travel to Oceanside, however, their pass is good only to Zone 2 (Solana Beach), and the pass is only valid for three zones. The passenger must pay the Amtrak Fare between Solana Beach and Oceanside. IN THESE SITUATIONS, THE PASSENGER IS NOT TO BE CHARGED THE STANDARD ON-BOARD PENALTY FARE.

Pacific Business Class Upgrades:

Reservations should be made in advance. However, Coaster Monthly Pass Holders may upgrade to Business Class by purchasing in advance a ticket from an Amtrak Ticket Office, good for six months from the time of purchase, or may purchase an upgrade from the conductor on board the train by paying the Business Class Accommodation Upgrade Charge when space is available. Business Class should be booked in the Amtrak Computer by using passenger type code “FM” exactly as it would be booked in conjunction with Amtrak-issued Ten-Ride or Monthly Pass.

Children:

The normal Amtrak Rules apply to Children aged 2-to-15. When A Coaster Monthly Pass Holder presents their pass, the adult using the Coaster Pass may be accompanied by up to two children aged 2-to-15. However, Amtrak Half-Fare tickets ARE REQUIRED for each child. Only infants under 2 may ride Amtrak trains free, limit one per fare-paying passenger.
