 N Trolleys Available

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE N TROLLEYS AND TRAMS (JULY 2024)

This is a general guide to currently available N-gauge and N scale model trolleys and trams. Here "availability" is defined as being listed as available by the manufacturers themselves on the primary market. In some cases, major vendors like Hobby Search Japan are used as a proxy instead. Beyond this, it is possible to find additional older models made in the past that are still available, either in the inventory of a store or online vendor, or through second-hand and used resales.

The availability list is divided into ready-to-run models (including those like Tomytec's, where a separate snap-in motorized chassis is made available to power an unpowered finished model); and unpainted and unpowered resin-printed carbody shells which the modeler must power, prep, paint, decal, and perhaps add details.

In addition, I have included a list of many of the N trolley models whose availability has been disrupted by the July 2024 shutdown of the Shapeways online product hosting, 3D printing and order fulfillment service. This sudden action has made many model trolley designs suddenly unavailable on the market. The various design vendors who used Shapeways are individually evaluating their options. These may include assuming the 3D printing and order fulfillment work themselves, finding another service to print their designs, or simply shutting down their previous offerings. While I have not included "fantasy" or highly inaccurate model designs in this listing, its length speaks to the dramatic impact of the Shapeways action on the N trolley market. - R. D. Kerr

READY-TO-RUN (OR EASILY ADDED POWERED CHASSIS)

Tomytec and Various Japanese Manufacturers
see Hobby Search Japan website (in English):
Japanese Models: www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1700/6/1
Worldwide Models: www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1712/6/1

(There are typically 20-25 one-time production Tomytec unpowered model trams available at any given time, with motorizing chassis available. Also some ready-to-run trams from Modemo, TGW (Tsugawa), Tramway and others. These are nearly all models of Japanese prototypes and change too often for me to want to constantly update.)
