Les inscriptions sur un wagonLes données inscrites sur les côtés d'un wagon renferme un paquet d'informations intéressantes pour le railfan. Certaines de ces inscription, comme la capacité de chargement, sont communes à tous les wagons. D'autres, comme la date du dernier test des valves (dans la cas des wagons-citerne) sont spécifiques à certains modèles. Dans les exemples suivants, je vous montre la signification des différentes marques sur un wagon couvert (boxcar), un wagon-trémie et un wagon-citerne. En cliquant sur la petite photo, vous aurez un agrandissement permettant de voir tous les détails. Les exemples sont après le texte anglais. On parle aussi de bout "A" et de bout "B" du wagon. "LW" correspond aux lettres d'appellation du wagon. Les lettres "LW" identifie ce wagon comme appartenant à la compagnie "Louisville and Wadley Railway Company". Le numéro "50238" est le numéro de série du wagon. Dans une même compagnie, le numéro doit être différent sur chaque wagon. Souvent, les compagnies numérotent leur wagon en suivant un ordre de série. Dans ce cas-ci, tous les wagons de ce type de la compagnie L&W Rwy sont numérotés dans la série 50 200. "LW" are the reporting marks of the car. According to the AAR Reporting marks list, this car belong to Louisville and Wadley Railway Co. The number "50238" is the serial number of the car. In a company, every car must get a different number. Often, the compagnies numbered their car in series. In this case, every car of this type in the L&W Rwy Co. are numbered in the 50 200 serie. |

"Plate E". La plate correspond au diagrammes représentant les mesures extérieures maximums de wagon. Ce wagon est donc compatible avec toutes les lignes ayant un dégagement suffisant pour les "plates E" ou plus. "Plate E". The plate match the diagrams of exteriors dimension for this car. This car is compatible whit every line that accept plate E clearance or more. |

Les dimensions montrées sur ce côté sont celles des dimensions internes du wagon. On rencontre rarement ces écritures, mais c'est une façon de faire de la publicité auprès de potentiel client. Le carré noir au bas est la plaque de maintenance. Cette plate comprends, entre autre: l'année et le mois de fabrication (BLT, pour Built), l'année de reconstruction (s'il y a lieu) ainsi que les différents types de maintenance majeure effectués. Le logo NSC signifie "National Steel Car", le constructeur du wagon. The dimensions showns on this end are the internals dimension. They are not mandatory, but it's a good publicity for potential customers. The black square at the bottom is the maintenance plate. The plate shows: the year and month of built (BLT), the year and month of rebuilt (if apply) and different types of major maintenance. NSC stands for National Steel Car, the builder of the car. |
