Kansas City Star
supports Amtrak funding
During the height of the Amtrak funding
crisis in late June, the Kansas City Star came out
swinging in a series of articles, editorials and columns
defending passenger rail.
Several letters to the editor & a pro-Missouri Amtrak column written by a former MOKSRail
officer: in March and April. The latter elicited a
negative response from a talk radio morning host who bashed
Amtrak.
In late June, the Star published an op-ed "As I See It" column written by
MOKSRail's vice president on Amtrak funding
The very next day the Star published a favorable article on the Southwest Chief
in the Star's news section.
A pro-Amtrak editorial next appeared.
Then at the end of the week comes a pro-Amtrak funding column that puts a
kibosh on the myth that Amtrak is the only mode heavily
subsidized. The writer sounds like he really knows what he was
talking about, so unlike a recent New York Times hit-piece called
"Amtrak Must Die" written by a supposed rail fan.
A MOKSRail officer was also published in USA Today
MOKSRail vice president's column:
balanced transportation system needed.
