In the early days of the railroad the Manistique and Northwest, Manistique, Marquette and Northern railroads were realigning grades, and interchanges points were moved or discontinued. In 1906 a new set of routing connects were made with the Grand Rapids and Indiana in control of the railroad and the Pere Marquette discontinuing the operation of the carferry.
