Midas Train Photos SARM Alco's

Photos of the 2002 Southern Appalachian Railroad Musuem's (SARM) Photography Weekend along the Secret City tour. The Alco RS-1 handled the retired Southern passsenger cars with ease. Engine 5310 awaits coupling with the cars.

According to the SARM's webiste, the Alco's first saw duty at the Savannah River Plant in 1951 until 1994 when it was transferred to Oak Ridge's K-25 facility.

During the years between 1994 and 2000, the Southern Freight Railroad leased it from the Department of Energy at the K-25 site. Then in 2000, SARM leased the engine for use in its tours through the Tennessee Countryside.

The tour goes thru rural Anderson County Tennessee and stops at the location where the railroad scene of the movie "October Sky" was filmed.

The SARM's website provides more information about their Museum along with tours and train info. Their website is www.techscribes.com/sarm/sarm.htm
