Salvage Operations at Young Spur |
|
In 1922 a group of mostly Swedish track laborers started construction of a new line
running from a point named Young Spur northeast to Hambone. A short remnant of the original mainline
remained in place for several decades. The pictures below date from 14 October 2008. All are by Jeff Moore. |
View looking north. The original mainline north towards Harris Mountain and the Medicine Lake
Highlands area continued on through the thicket of trees to the left, with the most recent mainline heading towards
Hambone and Lookout Junction curving off to the right. |

The grade of the original mainline eighty years after it last saw a train. Will the rest of the
grade being abandoned today look like this in the future? |
