McCloud Rails - Scrapping the Mainline near Burney

Removing the Mainline near Burney

Once the Sierra branch had been lifted, the salvage crews started work at the end of the mainline in the Burney yard. These first two photos, both by Steve Moore, show the start of the work in Burney and one of the trucks used by the contractor to pick up the rails.

By the morning of Sunday, 17 August, 2008, the salvage crews had passed the old Lorenz crossing on Highway 89 between the junction with Highway 299 and McArthur Burney Falls Memorial State Park. This view is looking north along the grade between the Highway 89 crossing and where the Lorenz spur left the mainline.
