McCloud, CA, 1981. For most of its history, the McCloud River Railroad used cabooses purchased second-hand, mostly from the Great Northern Railroad. This is the last of the eight ex-GN cabooses owned by the railroad. This caboose spent most of its life on the McCloud as MR #035; it is now McCloud Railway #553, which is possibly its former Great Northern number. This caboose has seen service only on special occasions in recent years, mostly on excursions and employee/shipper specials. The McCloud Railway has extensively re-built this caboose in recent years, including a new all-red paint job. Photo by Lowell Amrine and is used with permission.
