McCloud Rails : Equipment & Rolling Stock Details

| MCR 1837 |
This was one of two bucker/flanger plows built in the McCloud shops in 1938 to bolster the snowplow fleet. The plows were double-ended, and both included a flanger blade within the carbody to remove snow from between the rails. Both plows were originally equipped with doghouses on their decks for crew protection, as the flanger blades had to be raised and lowered by hand. The two plows were originally numbered 1751 and 1753. The #1753 was re-built with hydraulic controls in the early 1980’s, eliminating the need for the doghouse and the blade operator. That plow was wrecked during the winter of 1992/1993. The #1851 was then pulled out of storage and re-built with hydraulic controls as well, becoming McCloud Railway #1837 in the process. This plow remains as the primary snowplow in use on the railroad today. |
