Georgia Southwestern in Columbus, GA

Pictures of Georgia Southwestern (GSWR) Rail Action

GP38 in GSWR's Columbus Yard is actually NECR 3812. Label at the top of page is self explanatory. The numbers on the three GP38s are NECR3808, NECR3812, GSWR3813, and Slug 4176. GSWR 3813 is the slug master. The slug is said to be really helpful only up to 20 mph!
.
Here is Georgia Southwestern Slug # 4176 in the yard at Columbus, GA. This is the old CSX yard. Originally, Seaboard Air Line owned the yard. I believe that these tank cars are at a fuel oil loading or unloading business. There almost always seems to be 1-2 tank cars sitting inside that fence. This facility is at the end of the GSWR yard in Columbus.

This was typical of most GSWR seen around Columbus, Richland, GA, and Americus, GA in 1995 and 1996. Railtex may have moved this locomotive to Canada in 1998. These GP7s and 9s were too light for the increasing GSWR traffic. (Not my photo.) GSWR 1342 wears the last blue and white paint scheme seen before everything started appearing in standard Railtex red and gray. It appears that there are 4-5 GP40s on Georgia Southwestern. They are probably ex-N&W diesels, with the short hood lowered.
Another picture of GSWR 2127. I saw approximately 5 different GP7s/9s on Georgia Southwestern during 1995 and 1996. (Not my photo.)

This is another picture of GSWR #1342 in Columbus. It usally shows up with the long hood toward the end of the lashup. Since they normally run at night or at least after supper, I haven't been able to verify whether they are running this locomotive long hood forward. Since the GP38s on the other end of the lashup are positioned short hood forward, maybe the GP38s are always the lead units. That would mean that they pull up into the NS yard in Columbus, deliver cars to NS, and then back their train inti their own yard!
...
ISRR # 6599 on GSWR in Columbus. You could see this GP40 in GSWR's Columbus yard almost evry weekend during 1996 and 1997. It still showed up occasionally during 1998. This GP 40 appears to be ex N&W 1352 with the short hood cut down. You could also see this locomotive in Columbus almost every weekend during 1996 and 1997. I haven't seen it very often since NECR 3808 and 3812 appeared in Columbus. It may be down in the Dawson/ Albany, GA area. Georgia Southwestern serves at least two Cargill plants in that area, and interchanches with NS and another shortline.

The track on the left is Georgia Southwestern, while the one on the right is CSX. I think that GSWR once connected with Georgia Central somewhere down this line.
This is where Georgia Southwestern meets CSX and NS in Cordele, GA. The track going from the left middle to the bottom right of the picture is GSWR. The track going towards the bottom left is CSX. The track crossing the picture is NS.
