The following 5 photos are of an 1873 Mason Bogie called
'Torch Lake'. Today this locomotive exists in fully restored condition
at the Ford Museum in the Greenfield Village display. The model
was constructed from the Lionel 0-6-0t and styled in the 1920's
look.
This is an 1875 Baldwin 8-16-D 2-6-0. The same style
of locomotive was built for the D&RG as their class 40, and
many other NG lines. My model represents one of the more unusual
1920s appearances of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge #2. The model
is 1:24 scale, and is mostly scratch built atop a modified Aristocraft
2-8-0 chassis. The tender is also scratch made and is sitting
on Bachmann trucks.
For those interested the construction of this little
mogul, along with much background research into the workings of
the locomotive, please refer to the web site: www.mylargescale.com/resources. Here you can
follow along and build this model...
