Requesting Free Web Hosting At TrainWeb

TrainWeb is not currently accepting applications from the general public to host non-commercial railroad related websites. We are making major changes to this program and expect to reopen it to the general public in the near future.

If you were sent to this page by a member of the TrainWeb Staff and told that we would make an exception in your case, then please read on!

• The following are the instructions for requesting a free web account at TrainWeb:
  
  
• Before you even consider having your website hosted free at TrainWeb, please click here to make sure you understand the advantages, disadvantages, restrictions, and requirements of TrainWeb hosting.
  
  
• URLs hosted at TrainWeb are in the form: "www.trainweb.org/xxxxxxxx" where "xxxxxxxx" is a suffix selected by you that best represents the content or purpose of your website. "xxxxxxxx" should be less than 20 characters. The shorter your suffix, the easier it will be for visitors to remember and type your web address. "xxxxxxxx" must be all lowercase letters or numbers! It cannot contain any other symbols or punctuation marks other than a hyphen, "-". We recommend against using even a hyphen, but we do allow it.
  
  
• Once you have picked a www.trainweb.org suffix for your URL, test to make sure it has not already been taken by going to http://www.trainweb.org/xxxxxxxx where "xxxxxxxx" is the suffix that you desire.
  
  
• Once you have found a suffix that is not taken, send your request for a free website at TrainWeb to freeweb@trainweb.org. Please make sure that your e-mail contains your desired www.trainweb.org suffix, your name, your e-mail address, the title of your site, and a brief description of your site of less than 100 characters. There is no need to say anything more in your request for a free website unless you believe there are special circumstances that might lead us to deny your request. We would appreciate it if no further information is in your request unless there are special circumstances.
  
  
• Unless you have some reason to believe that your request will not be granted, assume that you will receive your login-id, password and upload instructions from us within a few days.
  
  
• Once your website has been created, you will receive an e-mail with your login-id, password and upload insturctions. We will wait up to six months for you to upload something to your account before assuming you have changed your mind and abandoned your free website. If you do not upload anything to your web account within 6 months of the date it is created, we will delete the account.
  
  
• You get to have your own clickable banner ad and to have your website advertised throughout most of TrainWeb! Since thousands of pages are visited at TrainWeb each day, these clickable banners will drive MANY new visitors to your own website! Banners are 200 x 40 pixels and limited to 3000 bytes to provide fast loading. If you do not know how to create a banner for your website, then set your web browser to: www.crecon.com/banners.html. You can create and download a banner right from that website! Just be sure to set the banner size to 200 x 40 pixels and keep it simple. If you make your banner too fancy, it will exceed our 3000 byte size limit. We restrict the banner size to 3000 bytes so that the speed at which pages load from the TrainWeb server are not slowed by the size of the banners.
