The Illinois Central System is now part of Canadian National Railways. Together with CN subsidiaries Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific and Grand Trunk Western, a complete Y-shaped system reaches across North America from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast, and to the Gulf of Mexico. The Illinois Central Railroad comprises of approximately 3370 route-miles of trackage at the "base" of the Y-shaped network, stretching south from Chicago to the gulf ports of New Orleans and Mobile, Ala. and also stretching westward to Sioux City, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska.
