The Chicago Central & Pacific Railroad and Cedar River Railroad originated from the former ICG "Iowa Division" spinoff in 1985. The CC&P mainline traverses an east-west alignment between Chicago (Hawthorne Yard in Cicero) and Council Bluffs, Iowa, with a branch to Sioux City, Iowa.
The Cedar River Railroad (CEDR) is a reincarnation of the Cedar Valley Railroad (CVAR), and has always been affiliated with CC&P. It comprises of the former Albert Lea District between Waterloo, Iowa and Albert lea, Minnesota, and the Stacyville Branch to its namesake town.
Although still retaining a separate identity, both CC&P and CEDR became once again part of the Illinois Central System with the purchase of both railroads in June of 1996.
