Miltown Malbay, market town (Thursdays),
parish of Kilfarboy (q.v.), West county Clare, Ireland, 8 miles
southwest of Ennistimon. Miltown Malbay is the terminus of the West
Clare Railway, has eight annual fairs, and a fortnightly petty
sessions. A new town has gradually sprung up 1 miles west of the
old town, consisting mainly of villas and dwelling-houses for the
accommodation of tourists and summer visitors. Miltown Malbay
contains the parish church of Kilfarboy parish, and has good
national schools. The Roman Catholic chapel is a fine cruciform
building. Miltown Malbay is now a fashionable summer resort, has
good sea-bathing and fine cliff scenery. Beside the new town a
racecourse has been laid out, and there is good salmon- and
trout-fishing in the neighbourhood.
