Oregon California & Eastern Railroad Delivering Logs to the Mill |
|
The Weyerhaeuser sawmill was located south of the city, on the opposite side of Lower Klamath Lake from the western end of the OC&E. The Great Northern (later Burlington Northern) transported logs coming off of the OC&E to the Weyerhaeuser Mill from 1940 until the end of 1974. Weyerhaeuser obtained trackage rights over the BN and SP between the OC&E yard and their sawmill when they purchased the road in 1975, and up until the end of operations the OC&E ran yard jobs that made the final delivery of logs to the Weyerhaeuser mill. A loaded log train rolling through the BN yard on 3 May 1978. The BN yard was parallel to and south of the OC&E yard, and an interchange track allowed the log trains to access BN rails at the BN yard. |

After passing through the BN yard, the OC&E trains crossed the SP mainline and Lower Klamath Lake before turning south down the western shores of the lake. Loads are seen here moving south on 17 July 1989. |

There were several other sawmills other than the Weyerhaeuser plant on the western shores of the lake, and BN maintained the small Westside Yard to facilitate switching the various industries located in the area. An OC&E yard job has finished dumping its logs at the Weyerhaeuser mill and is seen here entering the Westside yard en route back to home rails. Photo taken 17 July 1989. |
