The HSR has two batches of NFI XD40s (Xcelsior model, Diesel powered, 40 ft long) for a total of 41 buses.
The 1100s were part of the 2011 Metrolinx Transit Purchasing Co-operative, with delivery of the buses in February and March of 2012. The 1200s were part of the 2012 Metrolinx Transit Purchasing Co-operative, with delivery of the buses in April and May. The buses were kept in storage for several months as the placement of the stanchions on the 1100s needed to be corrected, and to await the addition of equipment salvaged from the 9600 and 9800 series C40LF's and the Orion VI buses that were being retired (bike racks, fare boxes, etc). The first of the 1200s entered service on July 19, and the first of the 1100s entered service on August 23.
