The Piedmont Division of the NMRA will be the host for the NMRA National
Convention, the "PEACHTREE EXPRESS" that will be held in Smyrna, GA in
July of 2013 at the Galeria complex. Checkout this

video on the convention ! And if you are a train buff in the Atlanta area, please
consider volunteering to help organize or work at the convention.
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History has stated that
many places throughout the year will be holding memorials or gatherings
marking the sesquicentennial anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.

--- February 14th, Tuesday: Piedmont Division NMRA: Monthly meeting at the First Presbyterian
Church (a block north of the Marietta Square) in Marietta GA. 6PM is the

--- February 19th: Piedmont Division NMRA: Layout tour: Ray White's HO Gainsville &

--- February 21st, Tuesday: Piedmont Division NMRA: Peqachtree Express Convention planning meeting.
At the First Presbyterian Church (a block north of the Marietta Square) in Marietta GA. 6:00PM.

--- February 25-26th: Winter Stamp Show: A collection of dealers selling stamps,
paper and scriptophily. Could be some train stamps or old bonds there! Free. At the
Mansour Center (Old Sears building 2 blocks west of the Big Chicken), in Marietta GA.
March 2012-----------------------------
--- March 10th: Kennesaw Historical Society: "The 10 Worst Generals of the Civil War",
a lecture by author Robert Jones. At the Kennesaw Depot, across from the Southern Museum. 2PM.
--- March 13th: Piedmont Division NMRA: Monthly meeting and model contest in Tucker GA. 6PM is the
BOD meeting at the Hickory House. The general meeting begins at 7PM. See website above for more info.
--- March 17th & 18th: The Model Train Show will be held at the Cobb Galeria Center, I-285 &
I-75 area of Cobb County, Georgia. Sponsored by the Piedmont Division of the NMRA. $8 admission.

April 2012-----------------------------
--- April 7th: Kennesaw Historical Society: "Rare videos of the General",
at the Kennesaw Depot, across from the Southern Museum. 2PM.
--- April 12-15th: Marietta Museum of History: Great Locomotive Chase Weekend! Celebrating
the 150th anniversary of this event. Why not do this at the actual beginning of the event?
Re-enactors will be on hand all weekend, and there will be special lectures on Saturday.

--- April 28th: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield: "Trains, Trains, and More Trains!!" -
Children of all ages are invited to attend this free annual event where they will learn about the
history of trains in Atlanta and the US, and become official Jr. Rangers! Activities include photo,
dress up and craft stations, free goodies, and stations conducted by various railroad organizations;
11 am - 3 pm in Visitor Center. FREE!

The NMRA 2012 NMRA National Convention "Grand Rails 2012" will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

--- August 11th: Kennesaw Historical Society: - "Robert Toombs: The Last Rebel",
with Martin O'Toole, at the Kennesaw Depot, across from the Southern Museum. 2PM.
September 2012-----------------------------
--- 24-26th: American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners Convention.
The AAPRCO's 35th annual convention will be held at Chattanooga TN on Sept. 27-29, 2012, at the
Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, the former Southern Railway Terminal Station opened in 1909.
A special train, operated by Amtrak in conjunction with NS, will run from Washington, D.C.,
to Chattanooga. It will cover a substantial amount of mileage off the Amtrak national system,
on tracks where there is no scheduled passenger service. On Sept. 24-26, 2012, the special train
will operate over the former Southern Railway from Washington to Spencer N.C., then to Asheville
N.C., Knoxville Tenn., and Chattanooga.
The train will return to Washington on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2012, operating from Chattanooga
to Knoxville and Bristol, Tenn., where it will switch to former Norfolk & Western trackage
to Roanoke, Va. After overnighting in Roanoke, the train will use NS’s ex-N&W Hagerstown
line to Front Royal, Va., then onto the former Southern Railway into Washington.

! Last year, almost 6,000 visited more than 80 layouts during the Piedmont Pilgrimage.
July 2013-----------------------------
--- July 14-20:
The Piedmont Division of the S.E.R. of the NMRA will host the 2013 NMRA National Convention,
"PEACHTREE EXPRESS".
It is planned to be held at the Galeria Complex in Cobb County, which is located near
I-285 and I-75 intersection. It will run from Monday-Sunday, and feature several tracks
of clinics, layout and industry tours, and the National Train Show (Fri-Sun).

Weekends: The NRHS and Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth,
Georgia is open and offers caboose rides. It is home to the NRHS (National Railway
Historical Society) Atlanta Chapter.
(They just acquired a new-to-them 1947 fire truck & a Checker Cab !)

2nd Tuesdays: National Model Railroad Association: Monthly meeting of the Piedmont
Division, at the Elks Lodge, 1775 Montreal Road in Tucker, Georgia (off LaVista Road, near I-285).

"The Piedmont Division promotes model railroading to its members and the public by providing
information, fellowship and organized activities that are educational, entertaining
and engaging. The division operates within and supports the goals of the NMRA
www.nmra.org and the Southeastern Region.

November is National Model railroading month. About 50 Piedmont Division
NMRA members in north Georgia with layouts will
be hosting open houses at various times every Saturday and Sunday in November.

The Southern Museum (full name: The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive
History) located in Kennesaw, Georgia has rolled out it's "General-II" for use in youth programs.
Other kids programs are coming. The Education Center is now open. It also hosts Kennesaw
Historical Society talks, and is a Smithsonian Affiliate museum hosting S.I.T.E.S. traveling
exhibits.

The North Atlanta Trade Center or NATS (formerly a Richway Store)
in Norcross, Georgia is just east of I-85. It is the site of many railroad-themed shows
throughout the year. Exit 101 (Indian Trail) about 3 miles north of the I-285/I-85

The Marietta Museum of History is located off the square in Marietta, Georgia
within a dozen yards of the A&W (CSX) railroad tracks. It is in the building where James
Andrews stayed and plotted to steal the locomotive "General" during the Civil War.
